This state was purchased from Russia by William Seward, secretary of state for 7.5 million dollar.  The purchase was later known as "Seward's Folly".

The highest mountain and lowest point in the continental United States are both located in this state.

This state was admitted into the Union on January 9, 1788.  The quarter highlighted the The Charter Oak tree which proved to be a good hiding place for the state's original Constitution.

This "gulf" borders Texas, Louisiana, Alabama and Florida.
